          • Summer Reading Lists

With summer vacation comes the joy of reading for pleasure. When you are selecting books to read over the summer, choose books from a broad range of genres, such as historical fiction, fantasy, biographies, poetry, and the wide world of nonfiction.

Also, remember that many picture books and graphic novels are educational and enjoyable for both children and adults alike. We hope you will set aside time each day to read. There is no better support for academic success than reading every day. Reading literature enlarges vocabulary, expands general knowledge, and enriches understanding of literary references. We also encourage you to make reading a family activity by reading aloud to each other or enjoying an audiobook together.

Anyone living, working or attending school in New York City is eligible for a Public Library card, and we encourage all of you to register for a card. If you will be outside of NYC, explore the local branch of the public library nearest you.

Visit the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library or Queens Public Library for summer reading programs, books, and fun!
