Will of Jacob Stokey

     In the name of God Amen.  This twenty seventh day of January eighteen hundred and four.  I, Jacob Stokey of State of Ohio, Belmont county, being sick and week in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die  Do make and ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and Recommend my soul unto the hands of the Almighty god that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the desecration of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general Resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldey Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form--
First I give and bequeath to my well beloved son John Stokey $40 likewise to Lida Brown my beloved daughter $40-- and likewise to Hannah Gillespie my beloved daughter $40 and to my beloved daughter Barbary Brown $40 and to my beloved daughter Rebecca Stokey $40 and to my beloved son Joseph Stokey $8 and to Elizabeth and ___? my beloved daughters $8 each   Likewise I give and bequeath to my well beloved Stephen Jacob Brown whom I likewise constitute, make and ordain my sole executor of this my last will and Testament all and singular my lands and all other moveable property by him freely to be possessed and the said Jacob Brown doth bind himself his heirs and Executors administrators and assigns to pay or cause to be paid to the said heirs of Jacob Stokey the sums before mentioned in this will or testament in the following manner that is to say the first is become due the first day of January eight hundred and nine and then to be paid of five annual payments and is to be equally divided among the heirs yearly, and do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannual all and every other former testaments, Wills, Legacies and bequeaths and Executors by me in any ways before named Willed or bequeathed, ratifying this an no other to be my last Will and Testament.  In Testimony wherfore I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and date within mentioned.

    Personally came before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in and for Belmont County, Richland twp.  Robert Gilkerson and made oath according to law and saith that he saw the within testator acknowledge the within written instrument to be his last will and Testament also that he saw the within named Thomas Harrason subscribe his to said will or testament as a witness sworn to and subscribed before me the Twenty second day of June 1804.
