A Love of Family History
One of my favorite hobbies has always been working on my family tree. My interest in genealogy started early in life after seeing a beautifully done scroll of our family history. The work was done by Leona Brown, the wife of one of my father's cousins (James Brown), and she has remained an inspiration to me in my own search through old court house records and ancient cemeteries. A written history of my Browns and related families can be found in the story I posted, "Climbing the Brown Family Tree." This story traces my Brown family from their arrival in America in the early 1700's.

| Abel BROWN and Lydia were both born in New Jersey and are believed to have moved to Pennsylvania prior to settling for a a few years near Wheeling (then Virginia, now West Virginia) before moving to Belmont County, Ohio around the time the Ohio territory opened for settlement. Their first 4 children were born in VA and the last 3 in Belmont County, Ohio. I descend from Isaac BROWN who married Nancy LEMLEY in 1827 at Belmont County, Ohio. |

| George BROWN and Mary married in Belmont Country, Ohio where 9 of their 16 children were born before moving to Washington County, Ohio. I am working more closely with the families of Leander and Charles M but have contact with many of the descendants of other children of George BROWN and Mary HELMS. |
